Bands
The bands at St. Lawrence’s Convent add musicality and cultural richness to school events and beyond. The western bands perform at school functions and participate in external competitions, featuring primary, junior, and senior bands that practice weekly. The Hewisi Band, on the other hand, breathes life into traditional Sri Lankan drumming and percussion techniques, infusing each performance with energy and cultural pride. Together, these bands showcase a blend of contemporary and traditional music, captivating audiences with their synchronized rhythms and powerful sounds, and honoring age-old traditions while celebrating the vibrant musical heritage of the school and Sri Lanka.
Western Band
The western bands of St. Lawrence’s Convent have been able to add musicality and splendour to all school events. Not only do they perform at school functions, but they also participate in band competitions and band shows that are organised by other schools. Currently, the school consists of three bands: primary band, junior band, and senior band.
Junior and senior band members have their practices on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the primary band members have their practices on Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.



Eastern Band
The Eastern (Hewisi) Band at St. Lawrence’s Convent is a dynamic ensemble that showcases the traditional drumming and percussion techniques of Sri Lanka. This band breathes life into the rhythmic beats and patterns unique to the island’s musical heritage, infusing each performance with energy and cultural pride. The skilled drummers of the Hewisi Band, with their synchronized rhythms and powerful sound, not only honor age-old traditions but also captivate audiences with their vibrant and exhilarating performances.
